HOW TO GET STARTED PLAYING GOLF IN THE WINTER:
Ok, it’s kind of cruddy out side, but there will be a break in the weather soon and the ground will be white with snow and the air will be calm and cold. So, how can you get out there, swing the golf clubs and maybe have some fun playing golf. More so, how can you make a golf course out in your wintery wonderland? First off, you have to forget the ‘real golf course’ because they are most likely closed and if you were to hit a real golf ball in the winter it would really hurt because golf balls are basic rocks in the cold winter. As a result, you have no choice but to leave the golf course and make a winter golf course around your yard, neighborhood, park or schoolyard using something other than a real golf ball. Well, you are in luck. The almostGolf ball is a real winter option. I know it sounds crazy to use something other than the great and powerful golf ball, but they have become the #1 off-course golf balls in golf and the go to ball for any urban golf, street golf or cross golf world wide. Why, because they break the safety barrier and fly as far as your neighborhood will allow. Best of all they also glow in the dark. So, enough about plugging the ball, let’s talk about winter golf.
URBAN-STREET AND CROSS GOLF COURSE DESIGN IN THE WINTER
One of the great things about golf is course design, but few people get to experience it because the golf courses are already made. Now you have a chance to create your own urban golf course virtually anywhere. Remember what it was like to create a frisbee golf course around the neighborhood. Creating a crossgolf course is about the same thing. Since the new urban golf balls fly about 60 yards with an 8 iron, you can create super creative courses designed around just one club. this means when you go out to play in your wintery wonderland off a golf course, you don’t need to bring a bunch of clubs. You just need a pocket of off-course golf balls and a club. Remember, 60 yards is a healthy distance when you are not on a golf course and in the world we live it. It also gives you ample challenge to hone your swing and golf skills.
THE ADVANTAGES TO OFF-COURSE WINTER PLAY OR PRACTICE
The key advantage to creating your own shoot around neighborhood golf course is that it’s right outside your door. It can be 12 hole or just three holes. You can jump out, play some crazy winter golf to your fire hydrant par 4, then to the tree across the street on your neighbors front lawn, then back to your house where you need to hit your mail box to hole out. It’s that easy. The best part about it is that it didn’t cost you anything, the balls didn’t hurt your hands on a miss hit and you didn’t break anyone’s car windows. Oh yes, you got to swing the clubs without having to set up a golf hitting net in the basement of garage.
WINTER CROSS GOLF COURSE DESIGN: Field marking paint
The beauty of modern day hardware stores are that most of them stock spray cans of removable field paint in orange or yellow. So all you need to do is create a nice orange circle around your off-course golf targets and you’ve created a winter golf green. How cool is that. Of course you can order all kinds of green friendly field paint from our store and paint as crazy a winter golf course as you would like. The only limit is your own creativity.
TIPS ON PLAYING GOLF IN THE WINTER
It’s important to wear layers that are lose but warm so you can keep swinging. I am a big fan of under armor and other fleese like under shirts that can keep you warm and flexible at the same time.
PLAYING GOLF IN THE SNOW
PLAYER TIPS: Since you are on snow the ‘clean and place’ rule is definitely in effect. Trying to gouge your ball out of the snow is silly. Remember, no one is watching and no one is going to site you if you move your ball. It’s all about fun and casual play in the winter time. Also, get used to choking up on your clubs because there is a good chance that your feet will be a few inches to a few feet below where the ball is. This is a great way to practice your sand saves as well.
ADVANTAGES OF USING THE NEW URBAN-GOLF BALLS
Not only are almostGolf balls safe around the neighborhood, they come in a bunch of winter freindly colors like orange, blue and yellow, so you can’t easilly lose them. Also, because they are light weight and filled with CO2, they don’t plug into the snow the way a real golf ball would.
