THE KORTRIJK URBAN GOLF SQUAD RULES!!!!! The urban-crossgolf season is breaking out of the winter dull drums and starting 2011 season with a bang. It’s course design time.
Since the Urban Golf Squad are busy designing their course for their next event, we felt compelled to show their work and show what I consider the perfect urban-golf par 4 hole. Just like a normal par 4 you have a fairway and then a green or target. In this case our designers are putting together a course that few, I think, will be able to match.
THE TEE SHOT: Check out the water on the left, ‘cart path’ on the right and a little bail out if you really shank it over to the far right. In real competitive play I would actually make the path a water hazard. Now the fairway really means something. What is great about this tee shot is that your fairway is very well defined with some great hazards on both left and right. Note that the almostGolf ball flies about 70 meters with a 7 iron, so you need to scale the course to the clubs that you are going to use.

IMPORTANT NOTE. HOW TO SCOUT YOUR URBAN GOLF COURSE: These shots were taken during a course scout. Scouting is critical because your urbangolf course is your art form. It’s what will dazzle everyone. When scouting you need to first start with the broad strokes. It’s just like a how painters begin a canvas. First you walk the course, talk about it. Then you start seeing ‘greens’ and targets. Then you want to start hitting shots and creating the course. Remember to take advantage of the natural topography. This hole is a perfect example of this. My goal is to create a course that begins and ends at the ‘club house’ so when you are done with your round you are only inches from a beer or beverage under the club house tent.

THE GREEN/TARGETS: What I love about this hole is that once you safely get onto the fairway, you have an excellent second shot to the supporting post of this amazing bridge.
CONNECTING HOLES: The next hole tees off on the grass on the other side of the bridge post. You tee off across the water, then walk the bridge to the other side. How cool is that. That is what I call an truly creative and challenging set of urban golf holes.
START DESIGNING YOUR COURSE: We are going to have a great 2011 season both in the US, Europe and around the world. We’d love to have as many urban and cross golf events as we can. Feel free to give the Off-Course Golf Network a call if you have any questions.
